More and more keeps pouring in these days from the land of Morrissey and The Smiths. We've got the Morrissey Southpaw Grammar reissue, his new album Years Of Refusal and a tour all planned for 2009.
Next month Rhino will release The Sound Of The Smiths in two versions. Details in our past post here.
And now Rhino UK will also release a 7" Smiths singles box set. The set will be limited to 10,000 copies and contains ten UK-released singles complete with their original sleeve artwork.
The set also contains two exclusive singles -
Still Ill, which was originally planned as a single but was pushed aside for the release of Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now. It shows up here with the b-side You've Got Everything Now.
The other exclusive inclusion is that of the Dutch single for The Headmaster's Ritual backed with Oscar Wildly. The original artwork makes up the sleeve.
The box set also includes four contemporary badges, a poster featuring the single artwork and an authentication certificate that contains a unique redemption code for mp3 downloads of the tracks. Love that they included the download option.
The coolest thing about this set is that Morrissey chose the cover art himself. It is nice to know he was included in the process and can give the set the proper representation. The cover star is Joel Fabiani from the 1969 TV series Department S.
The set hits shops on December 8th but pre-orders from Rhino UK will ship three weeks early on November 17th. The first 100 folks to pre-order will also receive a special This Charming Man promo-only CD single. The first 100 will also be entered into a drawing to win a print of the cover image.
Pre-order the set here.
We have most of the original issues of the singles below but we will of course have to buy this anyway. Damn collector mentality in us.

OH. MY. GOD.
When I tried to order this from the Rhino site when it was announced, they said they only shipped to the UK. I see now that they appear to ship everywhere. Which means I MISSED the promo CD and the drawing.

Why wasn't the 7" for Girlfriend in a Coma, with B side, Work is a Four Letter Word included in this box set??? If anybody knows why?
Why or why not it should have been included?
the 7" of Girlfriend was released in 1987, and work is a four letter word is still one of the rarest Smiths songs and one that Morrisseys still listens too.
