Morrissey signs to Lost Highway in the U.S.

After much deliberation, Morrissey finally settled on Lost Highway as his U.S. label. Lost Highway will release his upcoming album Years Of Refusal in the states on February 17th.  The rest of the world will have access one day prior, on the 16th, via Polydor/Decca. Interesting choice, but we could see it oddly working out?  Billboard.com announced the signing this evening.  They also noted that Jeff Beck plays guitar on the track Black Cloud. We hadn't heard that one yet? 

A more comprehensive listing of U.S. tour dates were also included in the announcement.  We are pretty freaked out not seeing any West Coast dates represented here.  Does this mean we need to pile up the cash and fly on out to New Mexico?  At this rate, we may not have an LA-bound show until late summer or fall!  Help us.

Maybe there is a surprise show in the wings for February?

Fleet Foxes stopped by Late Night With Conan O'Brien last night for a performance of English House.  The guys have had quite a year.

The Little Ones and The Duke Spirit rock Pasadena this weekend for a good cause

The Little Ones and The Duke Spirit will join forces this Saturday to play the Webster Music Festival at the Daniel Webster School in Pasadena.  Tickets are 10 bucks at the door and all proceeds will go towards elementary school music and art programs.

Looks like their will also be lots of food and a silent auction.  Doors are at 12:00pm and the whole event runs until 4:00pm.  We haven't come across any exact set times as of yet.

The Presets coming back to America, round three

After two tours of the U.S., The Presets have decided to do it all over again for a third round.  The guys hit San Francisco for a show at The Mezzanine on April 16th.  They then descend upon Southern California for a final show at The Glass House on April 20th.

Tickets for all shows go on sale tomorrow.

The Specials announce homecoming show in Coventry

Back to where it all started...

The Specials will close out their 30th anniversary tour with a final stop in their hometown of Coventry.  The show will take place May 15th at the Ricoh Arena.  Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

Sondre Lerche to perform with the Louisville Orchestra

This sounds like a really cool experience - on February 21st Sondre Lerche will perform with the Louisville Orchestra in Kentucky at Whitney Hall.  Lerche will conjure up new versions of songs from his catalog to give fans a completely different take. 

Brandi Carlile will perform as well.  

We'd love to see orchestral versions of Phantom Punch and She's fantastic.

Live at KEXP, volume four out now

Seattle's excellent radio station KEXP recently released volume four in their live in-studio series. 

All tracks are exclusive to this release and the collection includes some great live takes from the likes of Vampire Weekend, Fleet Foxes, !!!, Elbow, British Sea Power and more.

Random video of the week #32 - The Specials "Ghost Town"

With all the talk of The Specials upcoming 30th anniversary tour, we thought it was the appropriate time to pay tribute to one of their greatest songs, Ghost Town. 

They were (and will be again) one of the coolest damn bands around.  You've got to love Terry Hall's voice.

Gigwise takes a listen to Morrissey's "Years Of Refusal"

Morrissey personally premiered his new album Years Of Refusal to a group of lucky journalist yesterday in London.  He greeted the crowd with an anxious "This Is My New Album. Please God You'll Like It."

Gigwise was there and they've broken it down for us track by track.  We're excited to hear the tracks we don't already know. Two of the tracks were previously released on his Greatest Hits collection earlier this year and four others are pretty well known to fans as Morrissey has played them out live over the past year or so. This is a strange one, as only half of this album is going to feel new.

Morrissey Solo also reported that the video for first single I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris is complete and set to premiere on You Tube February 6th. 

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Robert Levon Been to spend New Years Eve in the DJ booth

We don't usually cover Chicago specific events, but we found it kind of cool that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Robert Levon Been is spinning a DJ set before The Dandy Warhols New Years Eve show.  The show will take place at The Metro.

Been also provided one of our favorite moments in music in 2008 when he spontaneously jumped on top of a parked car in Chile, post-show, for an acoustic rendition of BRMC's Sympathetic Noose.
