The Maccabees release new video for "Love You Better"

The Maccabees just released a video for their excellent new single Love You Better.  We don't remember much from these guys the first go around, but the new track has us pretty excited. 

Love You Better is being released on April 27th in three different ways; one CD and two 7" singles:

Exclusive Record Store Day 7" singles planned for New Order and The Smiths

Our favorite holiday of the year, national Record Store Day, is taking place Saturday, April 18th.  All kinds of cool things are planned and there are lots of exclusive releases being put together for the very special day.

Two we are pretty excited about come to us via Rhino Records. 

Rhino will release an exclusive New Order 7" single for Temptation and a 7" of The Headmaster Ritual from The Smiths.  The Headmaster single also appears in the recent Smiths 7" box set Rhino released in the UK. 

Both are pretty true to their original releases back in the day (New Order in 1982 and The Smiths in 1985), cover art and track listings below:

Pete Doherty stops by "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross"

Pete Doherty pulled off an excellent performance of The Last Of The English Roses on Friday's episode of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. We're loving the track.  

Doherty's new album Grace/Wastelands is out now. 

Depeche Mode "Sounds Of The Universe" studio clip #15, Dave Gahan downs some honey

Dave Gahan drinks down a bit of honey (straight from the bottle) as he works through vocals for the track Corrupt.  It's sounding like another great track from the upcoming Sounds Of The Universe.

Great Lake Swimmers release video for "Pulling On A Line"

Pretty cool little video for the new Great Lake Swimmers track Pulling On A Line.  We like the imagery of the lamps in the misty forest.  Pulling On A Line is taken from the new album Lost Channels due next week on the 31st.

Placebo announce "Battle For The Sun" track list

In a post on their official site, Placebo announced the official track list for their upcoming album Battle For The Sun. 

Mr. Molko had this to say about the album as a whole:

"I believe 'Battle' to be the first of our albums to tell a story over the course of its 52 minutes. Our previous releases were really only collections of songs and even though the songs are ordered according to the musical flow, I hope that if you listen hard enough to the words that some kind of discernible thematic unity will begin to emerge."

Morrissey at Webster Hall in NYC

The fine folks over at The Music Slut posted some pretty great pictures from the Morrissey show at Webster Hall in NYC last night. 

We were supposed to be in the city for the show, but plans change. We are pretty bummed out about it.

Spandau Ballet announce reunion gigs, world tour

"This much is true-ue, this much is true-ue-ue-ue, I know this much is true", wow how stuck in our head is that song now? 

Another classic 80's band is reuniting to play some shows.  Spandau Ballet announced today that they will head out for dates in the UK and Ireland. The band made promises on a "world tour" to follow.  The U.S. even?  How crazy would that be? It's been 20 years since the band's demise in 1989.

Morrissey "Something Is Squeezing My Skull" single track listing revealed

The Years Of Refusal album is about to unleash its second official single in the UK.  Something Is Squeezing My Skull will be released as two separate CD singles and a 7" on April 27th.

According to Morrissey-solo, the track-by-track breakdown looks a little something like this -

Something Is Squeezing My Skull

No word yet as to the actual dates or cities of recording for each of the live tracks.  Skull is actually one of our favorite songs on the album.  A nice little rocker of a jam. 

It's also nice to see a random unexpected track like Best Friend On The Payroll show up in 2009 as a single b-side with a brand new live rendition.  Good stuff. 

Great Lake Swimmers premiere new album "Lost Channels" on Last FM

Last FM is premiering the new Great Lake Swimmers album Lost Channels via a full album stream.

The band also put together a track-by-track commentary.

Lost Channels releases into shops (physical and digital) March 31st. 

Great Lake Swimmers play Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco April 3rd and Spaceland here in Los Angeles the following night, April 4th.
