Photographer Kevin Cummins talks Morrissey, Marr, Happy Mondays and early Madonna

If there's one thing we love just about as much as music, it's photography.  Mix the two together, even better. Kevin Cummins, one of the greats and a favorite of ours, has a new book out documenting his amazing shots of the Manchester music scene.  His work with The Smiths, and later with solo-Moz and solo-Marr, is now legendary.  Anybody remember the infamous "tattoo" shot of Marr post-Smiths breakup outside the tattoo parlor? His new book, Looking For The Light In The Pouring Rain, contains a collection of his work from the Manchester scene over the past 30 years.  A black and white silhouetted shot of Morrissey graces the cover - above.   

Cummins recently sat down with the Mirror UK to talk about his work with Morrissey, Marr, The Happy Mondays, and early shots of Madonna taken at Manchester's infamous Hacienda back in the early 80's.  Good stuff.  Order the book here. 

Morrissey returns to the stage post-collapse, photos from tonight's gig

Morrissey took the Royal Albert Hall Stage this evening in London, just three nights after his stage collapse in Swindon. 

It appears he is doing well and back in action.

On sale date for Morrissey's Indio performance announced

Tickets for Morrissey's show at the Fantasy Springs Resort Hotel & Casino in Indio go on sale next Friday, October 2nd.

Also, we were quite bummed to learn that the show will be at the Fantasy Springs Event Center vs. the Fantasy Lounge (which has a tiny capacity), oh well. Still worth the trek, it's Moz damn it.  Get your game face on for some gambling and get ready to hit the buffet.

Morrissey adds more dates...Pomona and San Diego

A bit late on this news but...

Moz added two more dates to his upcoming West Coast tour. 

Monday, December 7th at the Fox Theater in Pomona and Tuesday, December 8th at Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego. 

Thumbs up on Moz at the Fox.  I think our plan of attack looks something like this:

Kick off with the December 4th show in Indio, head to Pomona for the show on the 7th, and catch him one more time at either the Gibson or the Ventura Theatere.

Morrissey announces West Coast dates

Get ready....

The return of Moz to the West Coast - finally. 

Morrissey will play Los Angeles on December 10th at the Gibson Amphitheater.  Better yet, he'll play the Fantasy Lounge (yep, the Fantasy Lounge) at the Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio on December 4th.  The lounge holds 300!  Tiny, tiny.  This is our pick for sure. We were given the wrong info, Moz will be playing the larger event center at the Fantasy Springs Hotel Resort & Casino, not the smaller lounge. 

LA folks will also be happy to know that he'll be playing the Ventura Theatre again on the 11th. 

Bay Area friends, it looks like he set another show at the Paramount Theater on the 2nd.  Making up for his last minute cancellation here earlier this year, perhaps?

Wow, it's been weeks since we've done a Moz post.  Amazing. 

According to Morrissey Solo, the track list for the upcoming b-sides collection, Swords, looks a little something like this - oh, double vinyl as well, our blood pressure is rising:

Apparently the CD version will include a bonus disc containing eight live tracks.  All tracks were recorded during Morrissey's Tour Of Refusal stop in Warsaw earlier this year.  No details on which tracks, yet. 

Release in the UK is set for October 26th. 

The b-sides encompass Morrissey's "comeback" years; from You Are The Quarry on.  Some classic songs are included. Ganglord and Friday Mourning are probably two of our favorite creations out of everything Morrissey has done post 2000.  Fans most likely have all of these songs in one format or another, but it's nice to have them in one collected work, and all on vinyl - bonus. 

"Springwatch" host mixes nature reporting and The Smiths

Ever thought of a bird as a Handsome Devil? 

Or better yet, ever think of nature and The Smiths in the same head space?  Most likely not, unless you've been watching BBC's nature program Springwatch. 

Host Chris Packham has a habit of name dropping titles of songs by The Smiths in as much of his hosting conversation as possible.  He's actually quite clever and witty, usually cracking up co-host Kate Humble, who often seems to be waiting for the next Moz-penned anthem to attack.  She's even managed to work in one or two herself. 

Some brilliant, brilliant person compiled all of Packham's song title drops (and one of Kate's) into a nice little video clip.  See below.

P.S. Notice Packham's Jesus and Mary Chain shirt.  We think this guy may be our new hero. 

Morrissey, "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby" live from Stockholm

As we mentioned below, Morrissey had an unexpected move up his sleeve last night. He surprised his Stockholm audience by throwing in The Smiths classic, You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby. 

Talk about a track we would love to see live, and talk about some ecstatic fans who finally got to witness an new addition to the Tour Of Refusal set list.  Finally!

We've been scouring the web for some sort of evidence and we've finally stumbled upon some fan shot video.  You've got to get past the screaming audience and the random girl singing along next to the camera that shot this.

Morrissey tour check in, Stockholm

It's been ages since we've posted anything Moz-related.  Very unlike this site, eh?  He's still out there on the road, touring the world, canceling dates here, playing some there.  Tonight in Stockholm Morrissey surprised fans by playing You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby.  If you're a Smiths fan, we don't have to tell you how huge this is.
